Australian-Filipino surfer and entrepreneur, Luke Landrigan, is now Billabong Ambassador.
Born in Australia and raised in the Philippines, Luke has established himself as one of the best surfers to come out from the Philippines, winning several titles throughout his career, with his most recent win taking place at the Coast Thru Life’s annual Single and Unattached Classic Single Fin Invitational Longboarding Contest 2016.
When he’s not out on the water, Luke can be found running the popular San Juan Surf School and Resort, which were founded back in 2001 and 1992 respectively. The school is frequently patronised by celebrities and famous personalities, and was even the resort of choice for former President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“With his in-depth industry knowledge, his always optimistic approach and his work in growing the sport in the Philippines, Luke Landrigan is someone that epitomises the Billabong lifestyle,” says Regional Sales Manager, James Beckwith. “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Luke into the Billabong family.”
While Luke’s accomplishment both on and off water has over the years built him a solid reputation (not to mention fan base), any one that he has ever crossed paths with can concur that he remains as grounded as ever. In interviews, Luke frequently attributes surf to giving him everything he knows and has today; it is surf that has compelled him to pass on what he has learnt by being actively involved in a variety of community projects.
One of his more notable community involvements is his continued work with Special Education – La Union (SPED). Through his surf school, he helps children with special disabilities connect with the ocean with surf as a medium. Luke believes that surf as a form of therapy is enriching for the soul. Aside from working with SPED, Luke also has a keen interest in grooming young grommets to help grow the local surf scene.
“I’m really stoked to be part of the team!” says Luke. “Billabong has always been active in supporting the surf scene, and I can't wait to do the same with them on a local level!”
